Geneva-based UN experts warn that Gaza faces mass starvation unless Israel immediately restores unimpeded access for humanitarian agencies, notably UNRWA and OCHA.

With over half a million Gazans at risk of famine and widespread acute malnutrition among children, the experts condemn Israel’s restrictions as a violation of international law and a weaponisation of starvation.

They criticise Israel’s replacement of impartial aid with a militarised, privatised system, which has worsened food shortages and contributed to nearly 1,400 deaths among those seeking food. Recent Israeli laws barring cooperation with UNRWA have crippled the agency’s operations, undermining aid delivery and endangering humanitarian staff.

Despite unproven allegations linking UNRWA to terrorism—claims rejected by independent reviews—most donors have resumed funding after a temporary suspension. The UN Secretary-General describes UNRWA as approaching an “unprecedented breaking point,” exacerbated by the US funding freeze.

Experts urge Israel to uphold its legal obligations to protect humanitarian actors and condemn its recent expansion of smear campaigns to OCHA. They also decry Israel’s obstruction of international human rights monitors and media access.

Calling for an immediate ceasefire and release of hostages, the experts demand an end to Israel’s occupation and full Palestinian self-determination in a secure, independent state.
