Israel has announced that the crossings into Gaza will remain closed for the foreseeable future, citing the continuation of hostilities related to its conflict with Iran. This closure significantly hampers the delivery of crucial humanitarian aid, deeply impacting the civilian population.
Despite claims from the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) that Gaza possesses sufficient food supplies to last for an “extended period,” numerous aid organizations, including World Central Kitchen, are sounding alarms over deteriorating conditions.
Chef José Andrés, the founder of World Central Kitchen, emphasized the urgent need for daily food deliveries to ensure that vulnerable families, who are caught in the crossfire but are not participants in the conflict, are fed. “We need food deliveries every single day to feed hungry families who are not part of this war,” he stated on social media platform X.
As the situation remains precarious, the international community watches closely, urging Israel to reconsider the impact of its closure on humanitarian efforts within Gaza
