Poland’s top court, the Constitutional Tribunal, resumes proceedings on a case on whether Poland’s Constitution takes precedence over EU laws and is expected to issue a key verdict.

If the verdict gives precedence to local law, it will undermine the EU’s joint justice system.

The session was postponed from July after PM Mateusz Morawiecki met with EU’s Ursula von der Leyen.

On August 17 Poland told the European Union it will shut down a chamber at its supreme court devoted to disciplining judges, an issue that has been at the heart of a dispute between Warsaw and Brussels.
