Sudan’s western Darfur region is one of the areas most affected by year-long conflict, with up to 15,000 people killed.
The UN says the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and its allies have committed ethnic cleansing against the Masalit tribe.
More than 500,000 people have been displaced to neighbouring Chad with reports of dozens of mass graves for members of the Masalit, as well as the Ardamata tribes.
Al Jazeera speaks to some of those from the region who’ve now taken up arms and joined to fight against the RSF.
