“Almost 7.1 million people, including an estimated 3.3 million children, are now displaced from their homes across Sudan,” Save the Children said.

“Millions of displaced children and families need help, now. They need food, water, shelter, clothing, medicines – the absolute basics. Beyond this they need psychological support to help cope with the intense stress they are under. Children have been on the run for four months now; they have lost family members and have watched their homes and schools, places they once felt safe, become rubble. The situation is critical,” said Dr. Arif Noor, Save the Children’s Country Director in Sudan.

More than 4.6 million people have been displaced, according to the UN migration agency. Those include over 3.6 million who fled to safer areas inside Sudan and more than 1 million others who crossed into neighboring countries.

Many residents of Khartoum live without water and electricity, and the country’s health care system has nearly collapsed.

Sudan plunged into chaos in mid-April when simmering tensions between the military, led by Burhan, and the powerful paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, commanded by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, exploded into open fighting in the capital, Khartoum, and elsewhere.

President of Sudan’s Sovereign Council is due to continue his foreign trips. He is expected to visit Saudi Arabia. The week of September 4th Burhan visited Doha, Juba and Egypt.

Fighting continues across Sudan between the Sudanese Military and Rapid Support Forces. Airstrikes, artillery fire
and other attacks have killed thousands of Sudanese.
