The UN will convene a high-level session at the General Assembly on September 30 to draw renewed attention to the plight of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar. The goal: revive international engagement and secure much-needed aid for a population trapped in limbo.
Over 1.4 million Rohingya remain in sprawling camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, having fled a 2017 military crackdown in Myanmar that killed thousands and has been widely labeled both a war crime and genocide.
Bangladesh hosted a similar international conference in August, and Qatar is set to stage another on December 6, highlighting the persistent struggle to keep the Rohingya crisis alive on the world stage.
