The Knesset plenum is set to vote on the expulsion of Arab Israeli MK Ayman Odeh, who compared captives held in Gaza to Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli jails. The motion requires a majority of 90 out of 120 members to pass.
On Sunday, opposition leader Yair Lapid criticised plans for a so-called “humanitarian city” in Gaza, calling it “a bad idea from every possible perspective.” He warned it would become a concentration camp if Palestinians were barred from leaving.
Former prime minister Ehud Olmert echoed these concerns, telling The Guardian that the city would effectively be a concentration camp and that confining Palestinians there would amount to ethnic cleansing.
Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold a cabinet meeting on Sunday to discuss developments in the Doha negotiations. The meeting is expected to address approval of new maps after Egypt raised concerns about plans giving Israel control over 40% of the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Itamar Ben-Gvir, chairman of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party and national security minister, met with Likud ministers to urge opposition to a ceasefire deal.
A “972” investigation revealed the Israeli army is using low-cost drones to enforce expulsion orders in Gaza, with soldiers admitting to deliberately targeting civilians to discourage their return.
On Sunday evening, relatives of captives held in Gaza and activists gathered outside Netanyahu’s office in Jerusalem, demanding a deal for the release of all remaining prisoners.
Meanwhile, Israeli media showed footage of activists, including families of Israeli prisoners, blocking the Allenby Bridge crossing in protest against the ongoing entry of humanitarian aid convoys into Gaza.
