Lebanon humanitarian crisis:

On March 24, 2026, the United Nations reported a troubling humanitarian crisis unfolding in Lebanon and its neighboring regions. Due to escalating conflict spillover, approximately 130,000 people have fled from Lebanon into Syria, seeking safety from the violence. At the same time, the turmoil has displaced nearly one million individuals within Lebanon itself, forcing countless families to leave their homes in search of shelter and security.

This mass displacement highlights the growing instability in the area, as communities struggle to cope with the sudden influx of refugees and internally displaced persons. Aid organizations and governments face mounting pressure to provide humanitarian assistance and support to those affected by the ongoing conflict.

The situation remains urgent, with many lives disrupted and futures uncertain. The international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a resolution that can bring peace and stability back to the region, allowing displaced people to return safely to their homes.

Gaza humanitarian crisis:

Gaza’s profound humanitarian crisis, encompassing broad-based denial of human rights and serious violations of international humanitarian law, requires decisive action, particularly by Israel, the Occupying Power. Unhindered humanitarian access to afflicted populations must be guaranteed. Reconstruction efforts should be firmly tied to respect for human rights, accountability for violations and the establishment of genuinely representative governance. The recommendations outlined below are directly based on established norms and principles of international law.

Recent discussions in the Security Council, Special Political and Decolonization Committee and Human Rights Council have drawn attention to the urgency of addressing these imperatives. Causal and legal links connecting these issues to the well-being of civilians—including the need to prevent further devastation, protect civilians from attacksand guarantee relief delivery—have been underscored. Multilateral and bilateral obligations, including action by regional actors, have also been examined and the Security Council presents an authoritative platform for advancing such commitments. Consistency with international law enhances the prospect for action, establishing a core minimum of measures needed to address the immediate crisis. Priority must therefore be accorded to action that is legally grounded and practically feasible.
