Israeli Author David Grossman Calls Gaza Campaign ‘Genocide,’ Urges Two-State Solution

David Grossman, an acclaimed Israeli author and peace activist, has described Israel’s campaign in Gaza as genocide—a term he previously avoided but now feels compelled to use after witnessing reports, images, and testimonies from the region.
Speaking to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Grossman expressed deep pain and distress over the situation, highlighting how the association of Israel with genocide and hunger is devastating, especially given Israel’s historical sensitivity to suffering.
He attributes much of Israel’s current crisis to the occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967, which he believes has corrupted the country by fostering a dangerous sense of unchecked power. Grossman supports moves by countries like France and the UK to recognize Palestine as a state, seeing it as a potential step toward clearer political frameworks and obligations, while emphasizing strict conditions to exclude violence.
Despite the challenges, Grossman remains firmly committed to a two-state solution, viewing it as the only viable path forward, though it will require political maturity and resilience from both Israelis and Palestinians amid inevitable opposition.
