Geneva’s Endless Deliberations
The Human Rights Council convenes once again in Geneva on Tuesday
A report on Israeli settlements opens the proceedings.
Item 7 follows, Geneva’s long-standing platform for the human-rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab lands. Some Western delegates call it biased; others insist it is indispensable. Whatever the view, it ensures that Israel remains under scrutiny while the broader mechanisms for change remain stalled beyond the chamber walls.
The distance between words and tangible impact remains wide. Gaza’s suffering, and that of surrounding territories, continues, ecorded, noted, lamented, but largely unaltered. Diplomacy proceeds with careful precision, structured and ritualized, while the realities on the ground endure largely unaffected
