Thousands have been displaced in Nigeria’s north-east city Maiduguri after a dam broke, flooding homes, schools, hospitals and farms.
Half of the city is under water, reportedly its worst flooding in 30 years.
Officials have warned of possible deaths, and urged people to evacuate as more flooding is likely.
Maiduguri is the capital of Borno state, and home to more than 2 million, many of them IDPs fleeing armed groups in the region such as Boko Haram.
Flooding has affected over nearly 620,000 people in 29 Nigerian states since mid-August, according to Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency.
The Alau dam has been showing signs of stress since last week following heavy rains, but authorities had assured locals it would hold.
