Chile’s Constitutional Convention, a committee of 155 Chilean citizens, meets to vote on about 80 proposed articles to be included in the country’s new constitution.
The articles include legalising cannabis and enshrining constitutional rights for animals and glaciers, and some very popular proposals like the protection of individual retirement pensions.
Each article has to be approved by two-thirds of the convention to be included in the draft of the new constitution. About 75% of convention members lean left.
The convention is aiming to have a complete draft of the new constitution ready in July, for it to be voted on in a referendum before the end of the year.
