Brasilia: Indigenous tribes from across Brazil gather in the capital in a bid to pressure Congressional lawmakers from approving legislation that would allow mining on Indigenous lands in the country.

Passage of the bill could take place on April 12.

Pro-Bolsonaro lawmakers fast-tracked the bill – meaning it can be put to a full vote without committee hearings – seizing on global fertiliser shortages caused by the Ukraine war.

Bolsonaro has said Brazil may run out of fertilizer it imported from Eastern Europe and should rely on its own mineral resources, by exploiting Indigenous lands.
