40 people have died, some 228 people were left homeless and 338 were evacuated in the Sao Paulo state of San Sebastiao after flooding and landslides hit across the weekend.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited impacted areas in the southeastern state of Sao Paulo, where dozens of people remain missing and the death toll is expected to rise.
