This May 21-25, 2024, IPI congress, took place in Sarajevo capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina; dealt with some complex issues and calamities. No shadow of doubt that the mainstream global media is at an unwarranted juncture; specifically, when it comes to issues as: Hate speech, misinformation climate change, humanitarian crisis, economic inequality, armed conflicts, humanitarian catastrophes and polarization. In the interim, democracy and the rule of law are retreating as a result of an authoritarian upsurge grows in strength. Against this backdrop, the IPI World Congress provided an opportunity for participants to involve in a meaningful discourse about the contribution of media outlets in addressing all current upheavals and pave the way for a better future. The IPI is a global body. It’s shouldering and shielding Press Freedom. It’s protecting independent journalism as key to solving common challenges. Over 74 years, the IPI World Congress endeavored to embody this same life-force of thoughtful alliance.
