Rawaa Auge, presenter and member of the Content Department at Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN), moderated a high-level panel discussion entitled “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Media from a Human Rights Approach: Risks and Innovation.” The session was organised by Al Jazeera Centre for Public Liberties and Human Rights.
The event took place at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha, as part of the annual international conference of Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), held on 27–28 May under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: Opportunities, Risks, and Visions for a Better Future.”
The panel explored the intersection of artificial intelligence and human rights within the media industry, structured around four core themes:
An overview of AI applications in journalism, with a focus on newsroom integration.
Forward-looking perspectives on news and programme production in the AI era, including practical case studies.
Ethical challenges and accountability risks posed by AI in media, particularly regarding human rights and editorial standards.
Opportunities to enhance professional capacity in media and to leverage AI for improved audience engagement.
Panellists included a distinguished line-up of experts: Dr Eddy Borges-Rey, Ms Khadija Patel, Dr Carlos Hernandez, Mr. Anas Abousaadiya, Dr Yasser Almehio, and Dr George Mikos.
