Rawaa Auge, presenter and member of the Content Department at Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN), moderated a high-level panel discussion entitled “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Media from a Human Rights Approach: Risks and Innovation.” The session was organised by Al Jazeera Centre for Public Liberties and Human Rights.

The event took place at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha, as part of the annual international conference of Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), held on 27–28 May under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights: Opportunities, Risks, and Visions for a Better Future.”

The panel explored the intersection of artificial intelligence and human rights within the media industry, structured around four core themes:

  • An overview of AI applications in journalism, with a focus on newsroom integration.

  • Forward-looking perspectives on news and programme production in the AI era, including practical case studies.

  • Ethical challenges and accountability risks posed by AI in media, particularly regarding human rights and editorial standards.

  • Opportunities to enhance professional capacity in media and to leverage AI for improved audience engagement.

Panellists included a distinguished line-up of experts: Dr Eddy Borges-Rey, Ms Khadija Patel, Dr Carlos Hernandez, Mr. Anas Abousaadiya, Dr Yasser Almehio, and Dr George Mikos.

The session underscored the urgent need for ethical frameworks and rights-based approaches as AI technologies continue to transform global media landscapes.
