Human Rights Watch has on Tuesday urged Indonesian authorities to immediately stop all push backs of boats carrying ethnic Rohingya refugees and investigate and end all assaults on refugees.

More than 1,700 Rohingya refugees have arrived in Aceh since mid-November- sparking community unrest in some areas.

In December, some boats carrying Rohingya have been returned to sea by local residents in Aceh province.

In another recent incident, hundreds of students attacked a temporary shelter for Rohingya demanding they be deported.
