The selection process continues to select the jury of 12 people and up to four alternates for the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin over the May 25 killing of George Floyd. Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
The jury selection process is expected to take three weeks. Opening arguments will begin no earlier than March 29 in the Chauvin trial (Hennepin County, Minnesota will be delaying some felony jury trials due to safety concerns according to an email sent to Hennepin County judges).
Thousands marched on the weekend, demanding justice for the unarmed black man’s death, which sparked protests around the world.
